The lab for clinical and integrative neurosciences, under the guidance of Prof. dr. Sven Vanneste, examines how the brain responds to pathological disturbances. Especially identifying changes in brain activity and functional topological brain networks is one of the most important research goals.

Using advanced neuroscientific techniques including (functional) MRI, PET scanning, electrophysiological measurements (qEEG), invasive and non-invasive neuromodulation, the lab maps the brain's response to neurological disturbances. Changes can be adaptive or mal-adaptive but are always an attempt by the brain to maintain homeostatic effect. The lab tries to understand the underlying mechanisms of (mal-) adaptive plasticity in various neurological disorders such as pain, tinnitus, Parkinson's disease, cognitive disorders, psychiatric illnesses such as addiction, OCD, depression, etc.
